My name is Atlas Dearborn (they/them/theirs). I am a metalsmith, an illustrator, and an overall jack-of-all-trades when it comes to art. My current artistic practice concerns identity, growing up, the development and the discoveration of the self. In addition, I love to learn, and I plan to become a teacher. Because of this, I like to try anything I possibly can.

My art is something that is personal, something that could very easily be locked behind closed doors, something that is private for only myself to engage with, but I want to expose it to the world, or at least anyone wants to engage. It's because everyone experiences similar things. Everyone has to experience the stress of growing up, of being in the middle of the journey in discovering one's identity. I believe that this is where communication lies. It is in individual and private moments compounded to encompass everybody, no matter background or experience. It is this communication that allows us to form relationships, something that is primal towards the human experience that I want to stimulate through my work.

In general, my art is weird, because I am weird. I enjoy learning different techniques characteristic to each medium I get my hands on. In learning technique, I like to expand my capacity to make art, and in doing so learn the intricasies of each medium that allows me to play with the conceptual. Art shouldn't be limiting, especially in the medium. Instead, I believe that the medium one uses can fuel the conceptual in a direction that is unexpected. I like the unexpected, because that's what humans are.
